The F.P. Journe brand of watches was founded by Francois-Paul Journe, who was born in 1957 in Marseille. Considered an unruly child, he was sent to a technical college by the time he was 14 and went on to graduate in 1976 from the Paris watchmaking school. The motto of this brand is Invenit et Fecit in Latin, which means He invented it and made it. The very first watch Journe created was a tourbillon pocket watch, which he began in 1977 and completed in 1983. Then, Journe completed a handful of high-end commissioned pocket watches for a small set of connoisseurs. In 1991, Journe made the transition from designing pocket watches to wristwatches, hand-building his first tourbillon wristwatch. The very first production wristwatch from Journe was the Tourbillon Souverain in 1999, with a caliber 1498 manually-wound tourbillon featuring a power reserve of 42 hours from a single barrel. The Reference T was produced until the end of 2003.
