Should I Buy A Watch Model When It First Comes Out? - Ask Watch Experts Questions About Watches
Zen L. from Bangkok, Thailand asks:When is the best time to buy a watch? It could be said that any watch model has a life cycle, from new release, to last year’s model, to out of production in favor of some small update, to historical vintage timepiece. If there is a certain model I like and want, and I don’t care that it is the latest version (but want it new), when during that cycle would you recommend pulling the trigger in order to get the best deal? For the sake of narrowing the question, let’s say the model is from a mainstream, widely available manufacturer. I unders
Piaget Altiplano 38mm 900P Is Newest World's Thinnest Mechanical Watch At 3.65mm
For 2014 Piaget will once again hold and retain the title of "world's thinnest watch" with the Altiplano 38mm 900P. For years now Piaget has been releasing mechanical watch after mechanical watch exclusively dedicated to the notion of being the thinnest possible of that type. Fresh movements come in these plastic containersOn an uncommonly warm day in early October I visited a place few watch writers go - the manufacture (well one of them) of Dubois-Depraz. High-up in the mountainous region of Switzerland's famous Vallee de Joux the factory sits among many famous watch brands. Dubois-Depraz is a key cog in the watch industry you know and love, but they don't make watches.Individual gears are meticulously tested for precision and utilityUnlike the many curated tours of watch factories I am subject to, my guide at Dubois-Depraz wasn't a PR guide. He p
Breguet Marine Royale Alarm 5847 Watch
While pretty awesome to behold (especially in size) and pretty in design, the Breguet Marine Royale Ref. 5847 watch for 2010 is an ergonomic mistake. It looks cool on the wrist - making you feel like some sort of well-to-do space pirate captain, but the legibility and use of the watch are pretty whacked. I've never much bought into the whole Breguet Marine line. Is it supposed to be a true diver? Just dive style? Dive anything? I mean it is called the "Marine," and does have an available rubber strap, 300 meters of water resistance, and rotating diver's bezel. Then again, it does have
