Eterna Royal KonTiki Manufacture GMT Watch
For 2014, Eterna is new. How is an historic brand new? Well, Eterna is under new ownership and new leadership. While much of the brand is the same, the next few years will see a lot of differences - especially as their relationship with Porsche Design has recently ended. Many of those differences will start with a return to some of the brand's major products of the 20th century. Enter the new Eterna Royal KonTiki Manufacture GMT watch, a piece which has incredible promise in design, movement, and price. All it needs is a refined dial and I think Eterna has a serious hit on its hands.a
Casio G-Shock GDX6900MNM-1 Eminem Limited Edition Watch
Casio G-Shock's 30th anniversary is a great opportunity for the brand to celebrate and to create some international buzz while they are at it. They clearly want to make this interesting and memorable for as wide of an audience as possible and this new limited edition plays an important role in that. Announced just recently at G-Shock's 'Shock The World' event in New York, this new piece is dedicated to Eminem (who performed at the event) and is officially called the GDX6900MNM-1. It is now part of the 'newly-revamped' XL-6900 family - an almost 10% bigger, enhanced version of the very
Rado D-Star Basel Special 2011 Watch
Things are getting a bit weird when brands start making limited edition timepieces for Baselworld. That would be like auto makers producing special cars to debut at auto shows, that are done in honor of those auto shows. It starts to turn into a cyclical argument. This piece is the new Rado D-Star. In addition to be being a "Basel Special" piece, it is also done in honor of the classic Rado Diastar."Diastar" has been hipped down to "D-Star," which is supposed to make the collection sound more cool. The slightly oval, oblong case is much like the original, but the sporty dial and subtl
Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Watch
Oris is pretty well known to me as a maker of workhorse watches with all sorts of sporty themes. Maybe it is racing, or diving, or aviation - Oris has a handsome watch for the job. Less people know their retro styled watches. One such example is the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date watch. It has a terrible name (no effort there!), but totally falls into the category of what I call "the dad watch." Yea, that looks like something everyone's "dad" used to wear. It has that sense of classic no-nonsense functionality that seems to remind you of steady good taste for uncontroversial times in the
My Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Forged Carbon Article On AskMen
Part of me has a love/hate relationship with Audemars Piguet. I really enjoy many of their watches, although I don't think they are perfect. Some of their designs are so classic and still hip, and I find myself really liking some of the pieces. Then I think to myself how overpriced some of the stuff is, and how a lot of what the company is - epitomizes the snobby luxury watch culture that I personally reject. Anyhow, this is the Forged Carbon version of the Royal Oak Offshore watch. A neat bumble bee of a timepiece with a lot of stuff going on. Stealth-wealth exterior and a fancy manuf
