he Bulgari Company develops a lot of its designs in its headquarters in Rome
The Bulgari Company develops a lot of its designs in its headquarters in Rome. It has invested heavily in Swiss companies to match their high quality standards and secure their parts' supplies. This strategy started in 2000 with acquiring Daniel Roth and Gerald Genta from The Hourglass Group, a big wholesaler/retailer located in Singapore. In 2005 Bulgari acquired 51 percent of the shares of Prestige D'Or, bracelets' producer, and 50 percent of Cadrans Design, a company developing high-end dials.
Why Are Watch Hands Usually Set To About 10:10? - Ask Watch Experts Questions About Watches
Harold F. from Mobile, Alabama, USA asks: Why are display watches in advertisements and in stores usually set to about 10:10?This is a good question and we’ve been amused at the various answers we’ve seen offered over the years. There is a very simple explanation for this. When the hands on an analog watch are set to about 10:10 they offer a balanced, symmetrical look to the dial that helps a watch look its best. Display watches and images in advertisements are interested in making products appear as attractive as possible. Many years ago, watch companies realized that th
Parmigiani Ovale Pantographe Watch
A long time ago English watchmakers Vardon and Stedman produced an oval-shaped pocket watch with telescopic hands designed to be properly sized (in length) no matter what part of the dial they were pointing to. You see, back then people cared about stuff like proper hand size (ahem...) on dials. Parmigiani apparently acquired the piece and restored it in 1997. The complicated mechanism, while not new, was very unique and they called it a pantograph (pantographe). The idea of hands that follow and match the contours of a dial is very cool, and in 2011 Parmigiani produced a limited editi
EHF Mk Zero Watch Review
This is the EHF Mk Zero, here for review from the new Swiss company, EHF Horlogere. Founded in 2011, EHF is five people who are trying to bring hand craftsmanship to affordable watches. I first heard about them when they posted a rather audacious tutorial on their blog of "how to assemble a 'Swiss Made' pilot watch on the cheap." (well worth a read, by the way.) I contacted them and they kindly sent us a watch for review and have also agreed to give it away to a lucky reader in a contest this fall. So read on, and perhaps you'll be the person who ends up enjoying this very piece. As a
Visiting The Blancpain Haute Horology Watch Manufacture
Blancpain is one of the oldest Swiss watch brands but it was on the verge of death before being taken over by Jean-Claude Biver. This was of course before Biver?¡¥s purchase of Hublot, and before Blancpain he was at Omega. Biver is said to have pretty much saved Blancpain (just as he did with Hublot) ¡§C a good thing because today, despite the brand?¡¥s literal English translation of ?¡ãwhite bread,?¡À very few boring things are going on inside the manufacture.Biver sold Blancpain to the Swatch Group a few years ago. The brand?¡¥s CEO right now is Marc Hayek, one of (the late and regrettably lost
