Housed in the new Glashutte Original Senator Automatic watch is a silver dial
Housed in the new Glashutte Original Senator Automatic watch is a silver dial, encircled by a fine black "railroad track" minute track. It coordinates perfectly with black Roman numerals. Pointing to hours and minutes are pear-shaped, blued steel hands. In charge of seconds is a blued steel seconds hand, fitted with a double-G counterweight.
Antoine Martin Slow Runner 1 Hertz Watch
Antoine Martin's Slow Runner is the epitome of what watchmakers make when they are trying to impress watch nerds. Who else would be able to appreciate the technical complexity and sheer whimsy of a mechanical watch with a huge balance wheel that operates at a steady 1 Hz? Visually the Slow Runner is fun, but understanding its real purpose takes not only an understanding of movements, but also an understanding of what other independent watch makers have been doing in this space over the last few years. We first discussed the Antoine Martin Slow Runner here back in March of 2013. Breguet Classique 5717 Hora Mundi Watch
One of the most useful mechanical complications I saw at Baselworld 2011 was the time switching mechanism on the new Breguet Classique 5717 Hora Mundi watch. Aside from having a very clever feature for travelers, the Hora Mundi mixes contemporary looks with Breguet classicism. That sounds like a bit of a irony, but they seemed to pull it off.The watch is large for Breguet Classique pieces at 44mm wide and over 13mm thick. The Classique style case looks nice in the size, but I think the design may have benefited from curved lugs in these dimensions. Of course the coined edge is always
Louis Moinet Vernoscope With Jules Verne Instrument Watches
Steampunk fans rejoice. This artistic item of display is the new Louis Moinet Vernoscope. Meant to celebrate the popularity of the Louis Moinet Jules Verne Instrument watch collection. I think the watches were a bit of a surprise hit, but they are really cool. And by the way, I have an in-depth review of a Louis Moinet Jules Verne Instrument watch coming up soon. The Vernoscope was recently unveiled at the Maison d'Ailleurs (House of Elsewhere), a Swiss sci-fi museum. They have some interesting Jules Verne items there, and Louis Moinet has donated the first prototype Vernoscope to the
Experience With the Hamilton Khaki Below Zero Chronograph Watch Reveals A Fatal Flaw
One of the reasons that I like watches so much, is that I appreciate machines, or devices otherwise, that are well engineered to perform some task (well), no matter how simple. This is why we have love for sports cars, high-end audio and visual equipment, and countless other "devices;" because we appreciate the fact that they do what they were designed to do so well. For many of us, it is a life long appreciation of fine engineering. In regard to watches, I appreciate function over form almost all of the time. That is not to say I will fawn over an ugly watches, but I will always find
