Nomos Orion 38 Watch Review
As a dyed-in-the-wool sport watch guy, I always have some trouble with dress watches. I've reviewed a handful in my time and while many were great watches, I never feared the moment when a dressy piece would be returned to its owner and I would go back to my personal collection of brutish divers and tough-boy pilots. That changed when I got a chance to see a variety of Nomos watches earlier this year at Baselworld. While the new Ahoi is certainly a stunner, the 38 mm versions of Nomos' standard line, the Tangente, Ludwig and the Orion, felt like a good fit for not only my wrist - but a
Grand Seiko Hi-Beat SBGH005 Watch Review
The word "Grand Seiko" either means a lot to you or nothing at all. Seiko's high-end brand built entirely in Japan by their most skilled watch makers is a meme unto itself. More so, to the Japanese it means one thing, while it means something totally different to the rest of the world.Grand Seiko as a line started in the mid 20th century (specifically in 1960), available only in Japan. For decades Grand Seiko was available exclusively in its homeland, as well as some select zones outside of Japan. If you heard about Grand Seiko and wanted one you had to contact a dealer in Japan that
Fullspot O Clock Watch
Here are some nice looking and very inexpensive Italian watches from Fullspot. Certainly designer, certainly fashion-y, certainly the opposite of most of what you have in your collection. But actually quite fun. How cheap? Not really sure to be honest as there seems to be two prices. The brand's US site wants $36 per watch, while the Fullspot's Italian site (both have e-commerce components) wants $24.35. With shipping I am not sure how much they are. So, it is either of the two.The company is really not watch enthusiast-focused. So, don't expect such specifics such as ho
Seiko Spring Drive SNR005 Watch Review
I've been in love with Seiko Spring Drive for a while. Ever since Seiko sat me down and indoctrinated on the technical and practical benefits of their innovative Spring Drive movements, I was sold. I've discussed what Spring Drive movements are at length in other articles. You can find a list of articles where I discuss Seiko Spring Drive here. Though to reiterate, producing the Spring Drive movement was a long standing goal for Seiko. It took them over two decades to do so, despite the fact that they have some pretty clever engineers over there in Japan. While I understood Spring Dri
de GRISOGONO Fuso Quadrato Two Time Zone Watch
From one of the coolest and quirkiest luxury watch makers around, de GRISOGONO, comes the Fuso Quadrato watch for 2009. Aside from the interesting shutter-style complication the watch looks pretty stylish in its 47mm 18k pink or white gold glory. The rounded square case will look good particularly good on the wrist as sometimes harsh geometric angles looks awkward on the organic shapes of our hands. While the watch is clearly from the de GRISOGONO line, it is a very new design direction for the company. Powering the watch is the automatic mechanical de GRISOGONO DF 21-90 movement with
