Armin Strom Watch & Racing: Why Sponsor A Formula 1 Team?
Did you know that Swiss watchmaker Armin Strom participated in Formula 1? Some things just go well together. Chocolate and peanut butter, Die Hard and Christmas, rum and bad decisions. Some things work so well together that it's of little surprise that when you dig a little deeper, you find that they share similar passions. Back in November of this past year, I had the good fortune to attend my first Formula One event and get an insider's view of what it takes to keep an F1 car on the grid. What I saw was a complex system of bespoke pieces which are all synchronized with input from a h
Mido Commander II & Great Wall Watches
Mido is one of Swatch Group's smaller brands that you rarely hear about. If you do, you know that like Tissot or (not available in the US) Certina, Mido offers some decent looking pieces at pretty reasonable prices (for a Swiss mechanical watch). As one of the underdog brands, sources say that the Swatch Group just isn't quite sure what to do with them. Sounds like Mido just needs the right type of person in charge. If you look at the pieces they've offered over the last few years, there are some real keepers. One of the most iconic collections from Mido has always been the dressy Comm
Richard Mille RM032 Dark Diver Chronograph Watch
Let's face it, there are not many brands like Richard Mille. They are effectively the Pagani Automobili of the watch world as they have consistently pushed the limits and interaction of materials, technology, and design. Richard Mille is famous for their use of massively complex skeleton movements, curved tonneau cases, and exotic materials. Some readers will remember the RM056 model which was launched at BaselWorld this year featuring a case made of sapphire crystal and sporting a $1.65m price tag. Regardless of your opinion of their watches, you have to admire their drive to make unb
The Perfect Way To Relax With Some Watch Montage Video And Classical Music
Here is a short entry for today, but with a good video to watch. Here is a compilation of video footage, much of it time lapse footage of watch and watch movement operation. A good deal of it is of vintage manually wound mechanical chronograph movements. I like this video for a couple of reasons. First, it makes use of well functioning watch that have had nice lifespans, is really and not computer graphics, and the choice of music represents the refinement required to make any of these watches operate. This video was done by Morgan Schmidt who is a cinematographer. His website is locat
Disney's Tick Tock Tale Short Film
Thanks to a Facebook friend I was able to learn about this new animated short film from Disney Animation called Tick Tock Tale. It is one of those shorter cartoons that will play before a feature length movie - just like Pixar (also owned by Disney does). I am excited about this for a few reasons. One, I love to see pop-culture fascination with timepieces, and two, it is actually animation by Disney again! About a decade ago I heard news that Disney vowed to only do computer animation moving forward. Which in my mind basically was a deathblow for traditional animation. Animation
