Pierre DeRoche Watches Interview With Founder Pierre Dubois
We've written before about?Pierre DeRoche, high-end watchmakers with a fantastic collection of unusual complications. Check this out all those hands.Six, yes six, retrograde second hands. Over the top? Amazing? Both? The men's version:Their site has a very good animation of the mechanism that's well worth checking out. It looks to be mesmerizing. One more, from the SplitRock collection:Now that I've hopefully piqued your interest, please allow me to introduce the CEO, Pierre Dubois, who graciously agreed to an interview [Ed. note a few years ago we also did a t
Jaeger-LeCoultre: Making Timepieces In The Heart Of Watch Country
I am in Switzerland ¡§C in the Jura mountains to be exact ¡§C and it is snowing. As a California guy I don?¡¥t see much snow. In fact, the only times I have really seen snow in my life has been in Europe. The place looks like something out of a Christmas card. There is white covering the ground and lining the trees while quaint little buildings spew puffs of smoke out of their chimneys. It is all very charming in a sort of storybook way. It is also the perfect setting for watch making, and the winter window views of the men and women who work at Jaeger-LeCoultre.I heard some interesting his
Perrelet Turbine XL Watch Review
If it is fun and you play with, then it is a toy right? call the novel spinning turbine style disc in this watch what you like - but this is a man's toy of the highest caliber. Does being akin to a toy degrade the feeling of luxury and high-end prestige that Perrelet is going for? No. At least I don't think so. Wealthy guys who stand around with nice watches talking about cars and boats are often looked at by their female companions who simply sigh and say "men and their toys." Most of the high-end stuff we like are actually toys. You know that ultra fast super car you've been eying si
Tutima Grand Classic Chronograph Watch
Nice timepiece and something pretty different from Tutima right? I got to check out this watch direct from Tutima who was nice enough to show it to me while I was at JCK in Las Vegas. This is one of Tutima's new timepieces that was released at Basel and represents a bold look maintaining a very high level of functionality. Tutima is located in Glashutte Germany right around a few other famous German watch brands. What I really like about the watches is that you can see a Tutima watch from the 1920s and you can recognize it as being from the same brand as Tutima watches of today.
Nubeo Black Mamba Watch Sheds Its Skin: Shows Off Complex Construction
A typically complex watch case consists of about 5-10 parts. Sometimes you'll run into something with more than that, but it is rare. A watch case can't be too complex because it needs to hold up for longer periods of time and retain structural integrity, while at the same time ensuring water and dust resistance. So you can imagine that the pieces need to all fit together particularly well. Tolerances in manufacturing must be minute so that the many pieces fit together just right. Well, the Nubeo Black Mamba has 131 case components making it the most complex watch case every made. Plus
