Greubel Forsey GMT Watch In Platinum
For 2014, the Swiss watch maker Greubel Forsey has released this new version of their humbly named GMT timepiece, in platinum with a black-toned dial. The tendency is often for brands to title their most expensive watches lavishly. Like aristocratic indicators of old, it is almost surprising that this timepiece with its intense level of luxurious finishing and a price that is well north of half a millions dollars has a name comprised of just three letters. At 43.50mm wide with a case that is... mostly round in platinum, the GMT is a serious statement on the wrist. In fact, all Greubel
Fortis Marinemaster Vintage Limited Edition Watch
In 2012 Fortis released this lovely "Vintage" edition of the Marinemaster (that we first wrote about here). It troubles me a bit when brands use the term "vintage" as applied to a new watch. Is it just me or does that cause unnecessary confusion? What for example do you call the actual original Fortis Marinemaster that this timepiece is based on, the "actual Marinemaster Vintage?" Limited to just 500 pieces in each of the two colors, in a few years the
Patek Philippe 5130G (5130/1G) Watch On Bracelet
The 5130G is an extremely classic Patek Phillipe watch with a look most any watch lover will recognize. It's world time feature is a signature complication that has been in the Patek Philippe family for a long time. Other high-end brands of course have their own version of the double disc based world-time function, but many consider Patek's rendition to be the current gold bar.The 5130G typically comes on a strap, but I was able to get a hands-on look (thank you Patek Philippe) at a newer version that comes with a metal bracelet. This model has an 18k white gold case and bracelet, and
Michael Bittel Double Diaphragm Eclipse Watch
This watch doesn't just have a dial that looks like a camera shutter, the prototype version actually used a camera shutter. Michael Bittel cannibalized a friend's vintage camera (he had permission) and took out the shutter. He ground it down and modified it, and used it to make an opening and closing dial on a watch. This isn't the first time that a shutter aperture style dial has graced my eyes, but it is one of the nicest renditions. I did mention the de Grisogono Fuso Quadrato Two Time Zone watch that applied a similar idea. Although on the Eclipse, the shutter opens up to re
