Why Do So Many Watches Use The Same Fonts? - Ask Watch Experts Questions About Watches
Arthur D. from Ontario, Canada asks:A lot of watches have Arabic numerals. How and why did this come about? Whats wrong with other fonts? Just looking at the Anstead watch article and then looking at my Omega Seamaster PO and the fonts are identical. What we think you are asking is why so many watches have the same fonts on the dial. Arabic numerals aren’t a font, but simply the numerals we typically use (1,2,3…) versus Roman numerals (I,II,III…). There isn’t a specific answer that we know of, but we will offer an educated guess based on what we know about the
John Isaac Icon XL Watch Review
Starting a new watch brand these days is a tricky endeavor. No one I've spoken to in the last few years who was part of starting a new line of timepieces mentioned money being their primary motive. That isn't to suggest that these aren't profit ventures, but rather that it takes a certain sense of drive and artistic desire to do what is necessary to bring a watch brand to life. John Isaac is just such a brand. It popped up recently with some interesting ideas and eye-catching designs. My favorite part is seeing how new ideas and new people add life to my favorite world. For rev
Romain Jerome Moon Dust DNA Watches: Stratospheric Prices, Galactic Novelty
This watch is pure imagination on your wrist. It is over the top in so many ways, and I completely appreciate it. Something in me says that this watch belongs at Disneyland, only it is real, and the fantasy is not in what it represents (we have been to the moon), but what it alludes to, which is a future of space travel.Romain Jerome has been around for a while selling what are essentially high-end novelty watches. The first was a golf watch that allowed you to keep score on your watch. Whatever, I know. Then they scored big with the Titanic DNA watch line. Each watch had a modicum of
Classic Complication & Beauty In The Maitres du Temps Chapter One Watch
New watch brands are appearing more frequently these days, and I am not sure what that means. Have existing brands run their course? Or does starting a new brand give a special value to a watch? The reality is that many brands have the same (or some of the same people) behind them. If you have a good enough team together, maybe it is worth just giving their creations a brand name. Maitres du Temps is just such a brand. Built by a watch distributor combining the aggregated efforts of modern watch masters such as Peter Speake-Marin, Roger Dubuis, and Christophe Claret. Most of who
Dwiss Emme Watch
Initially available for the Brazilian market, this "Emme" watch is from new brand Dwiss. Silly names I know, but it is a potentially inexpensive way to get a mechanical watch that pretty well resembles what a lot of people like in an Hublot or Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.The Emme collection is made up of a few colors and dials styles for a range of looks that aren't half bad. What I don't like however is that open date window - and Dwiss already knows that. The cases are 43mm wide and are made from 9 pieces with a lot screws. Those "side claws" appear to be loosely reminiscent of those
