Important Early Cartier Men?¡¥s Watches
Cartier Santos-Dumont watch from 1912Most watch lovers know that Cartier was an early pioneer of the wristwatch, especially for men. It was not until the 20th century that wristwatches enjoyed any real ?¡ãmass production?¡À and the transition from pocket to wristwatch did not occur overnight. When Cartier entered the wristwatch market it was still a product for the very wealthy. Small mechanical movements were still rather exotic, and a timepiece was still a serious (yet necessary) investment for most mainstream consumers. At a special Cartier exhibit located at the Grand Palais in Paris,
Girard-Perregaux 1966 Integrated Chrono Watch
Among other things,?Girard-Perregaux is a dedicated producer of watch movements. In this 1966 collection watch we find a brand new chronograph caliber for 2013. Despite the brand's penchant for offering wonderfully classic watches, they have been an innovative brand for decades, especially when it comes to movements. The B.R.M. Birotor Caps Things Off
Up until recently, I had not heard of the independent watch brand B.R.M. and their line up of racing-inspired watches - but I'm glad I stumbled across them. Get To Know Your Fellow Watch Collectors With This LGI Survey Data Exchange
LGI is a company that works with retailers to determine what watches are selling, where, and to whom. It is a valuable service that the watch industry relies on (at least here in the US) to advise them what the market demands and helps them decide what types of watches to produce. LGI is expanding their research to individual collectors and if you participate, they will share the entire survey data with you. Basically, if you are interested in who your fellow high-end watch lovers are, what they are buying, and how much of it, all you need to do is provide the same. It is a fair exchan
la Montre Verte City Pulse Pollution Detecting Green Watch
Here is a cool idea that is more than just a concept, but actually being done right now. Pictured above is the "Green Watch" and it is part of the la Montre Verte City Pulse project currently taking place in Paris France. It was started by the FING (Fondation Internet Nouvelle Generation) The project's goal is to create a system to measure air and noise pollution in urban centers, eventually learning how to create environmentally sustainable cities. There are currently three prototype Green Watches being worn that have air and noise sensors. The watches collect information and use a mo
