Cartier¡¯s solution was a square-cased watch to be worn on the wrist
Cartier's solution was a square-cased watch to be worn on the wrist. While it wasn't necessarily the very first wristwatch, the Santos-Dumont model is believed to be the first one made specifically for men. The colorful aviator and his exploits helped popularize that style of timepiece, which eventually overtook the more traditional pocketwatch as the preferred timekeeper for both men and women in the 20th century.
Since then, the Santos-Dumont watch has been a popular staple of Cartier's men's collection.
Ball Marks Adoption Of Standard Time With New Trainmaster Watch
In addition to their fantastic sport watches, Ball Watches makes some cool dress pieces as well. The new Trainmaster Standard Time is an excellent example and comes with a very reasonable price in 18k rose gold. So why "Standard Time?" Today, we take our synchronized time for granted. Prior to 1883 however, that was something that didn't exist. It's been 130 years since the United States adopted Standard Time and the railroads consolidated 70 different time zones into the four we have today. It was also around that time that a jeweler by the name of Webster Clay Ball decided to utilize
Fortis Marinemaster Vintage Limited Edition Watch
In 2012 Fortis released this lovely "Vintage" edition of the Marinemaster (that we first wrote about here). It troubles me a bit when brands use the term "vintage" as applied to a new watch. Is it just me or does that cause unnecessary confusion? What for example do you call the actual original Fortis Marinemaster that this timepiece is based on, the "actual Marinemaster Vintage?" I'm not entirely sure. Despite my meticulous focus on the meaning of words, I was glad to finally get a hands-on look at these watches. Limited to just 500 pieces in each of the two colors, in a few years the
Oris Divers Titan C Small Second, Date Titanium Ceramic Watch Review
My most recent new watch was an Oris Diver Titan "C" Small Second. Before discussing the watch itself I'd like to discuss how I came upon it. Watch enthusiasts really need a 12 step program. We are hardwired to always think about watches, our best bet is to channel our addiction to timepieces properly. Watches are where my brain wanders to during supposed "down time." I often think about it as the thrill of the hunt. How many times have the readers of aBlogtoWatch been obsessed about their next purchase, only to get it, and start the process all over again? The DSM should have an entry
Another Modern Classic From Bell & Ross: The Geneva 126 Chronograph Watch
This is the chronograph version of the venerable Bell & Ross Geneva 123, which I discussed here. The pre-BR-01 Bell & Ross is a testament to the design finesse of the French watch firm. Although the Geneva 126 is merely a bi-compax chronograph version of the watch, the look is very different. The beautiful number fonts remain, but with the 126 you have more of them. The Geneva 123 have the 12, 3, and 9, while the Genevea 126 clearly has more numbers displayed. The 126 trades off some of the attractive symmetry of the 123 for a more masculine military look. This watch really is
