Panerai Radiomir 1940 Limited Edition Chronographs
Panerai has a knack for SIHH novelties and this year is no exception. With a handful of special pieces being released, I'm going to focus on what caught my eye. Being rather firmly a Radiomir guy (unless we're talking about last year's drool-worthy 1950 Regatta 3 Days), I found myself taken by the new Radiomir 1940 Chronograph. With three limited edition versions rendered exclusively in precious metals, these aren't your garden variety Radiomirs and their dial design eschews Panerai's signature sparse appeal for something entirely more retro. While the three versions may sport
FP Journe Chronometre Optimum Watch: Timekeeping At Its Most Optimal
One thing that has always turned me off about haute horology pieces is the sheer uselessness of the complications watchmakers devise for their flagship timepieces.? Any number of these complications are really just exercises in devising the most complex and obscure ways of measuring the passage time ¡§C or some correlated component therein.? And while they are interesting experimental design studies often worthy of praise, they are just unnecessary ¡§C plain and simple. While many of these incredible timepieces represent the pinnacle of design and manufacture in the watchmaking industry, t
Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph 5980/1A White Dial Watch
When Patek Philippe started to release white-dialed versions of their popular Nautilus model I was intrigued. It was a very fresh color for their sport line, and while it wasn't a radical difference, it isn't something we've seen in this collection before. White dials are difficult to include in sport watches for a single reason - darkness legibility.Sport watches have lume-coated hands and hour markers, which are often light in appearance because of the coating. Much of the time they are matched to darker colored dials. To have white hands and hour markers over a white dial can be tr
Longio Tourbillon Watches For 2010
To my knowledge, Longio is one of the only Chinese watch brands trying to push and market their tourbillon watches aggressively. I reviewed one of their Telamon 1000m Tourbillon Dive watches here, and originally discussed Longio Chinese tourbillon watches here. You can find more information about the brand in those articles. Here I would like to share with you a few of their new, or other pieces. I visited them at Baselworld and snapped some shots - though the above images of the green numeraled Asamara Tourbillon were sent to me from Longio themselves.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Grand Prix Watches
This year Audemars Piguet is of the brands releasing a lot of new watches. The most visually exciting of which is this Royal Oak Offshore Grand Prix watch collection. Each is in a limited edition, so these aren't permanent additions to the collection. There are three luxurious versions and I have for you the hands-on experience. Let's start with the basic options. Each has ceramic and lots of forged carbon, but I will get to that in a bit. You have a choice of complimenting it with titanium, 18k pink gold, or platinum. These come in a limited edition of 1750 pieces, 650 pieces,
