Christophe Claret X-Trem-1 Chocolate Watch
You know what tastes better than chocolate? Luxury chocolate. Oh, we like our sweets dressed up, for sure. Hershey's? No way, give us something imported from France and tell us they ship regularly to the doors of presidents and prime ministers everywhere. So what is better than a brown watch? An over $300,000 "chocolate" watch from the secret watch workshops of Christophe Claret (imported from Switzerland!).For 2014, Christophe Claret quietly releases a new version of the X-Trem-1 watch, known as the Christophe Claret X-Trem-1 Chocolate. This new color version of the interesting ultra
Parmigiani Ovale Pantographe Watch
A long time ago English watchmakers Vardon and Stedman produced an oval-shaped pocket watch with telescopic hands designed to be properly sized (in length) no matter what part of the dial they were pointing to. You see, back then people cared about stuff like proper hand size (ahem...) on dials. Parmigiani apparently acquired the piece and restored it in 1997. The complicated mechanism, while not new, was very unique and they called it a pantograph (pantographe). The idea of hands that follow and match the contours of a dial is very cool, and in 2011 Parmigiani produced a limited editi
Franck Muller Vintage Curvex 7-Days Power Reserve Watch
Someday I'd like to hear the real story of Franck Muller's history as a watch brand. As a timepiece maker it is a fascinating company that has done a lot and gained a laudable amount of popularity for a high-end exclusive watch maker. Having said that, the Franck Muller group has certainly had its series of ups and downs from severe economic woes to quasi-scandals. The brand has been admired as helping to bring the luxury watch into new areas of culture with innovative marketing and some very unique watches (such as the Crazy Hour), but at the same time have a bit of a struggle in cert
Tag Heuer Mikrogirder 2000 5/10,000th Of A Second Chronograph Watch
I caught up with Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Christophe Babin to discuss their newest and most precise chronograph watch ever, the Mikrogirder 2000. You might have realized that each 8 months or so Tag Heuer seems to be coming out with a new super chronograph that apparently defies the laws of physics and horology. The ever-charming CEO is a cool guy and has lots of street cred with me for knowing, in pretty intimate detail, the science behind the watch and what Guy Semon's team at Tag Heuer needed to overcome to make the bloody 5/10,000th of a second chronograph work."We are reaching t
Artya Perpetual Calendar Piece Unique Watches
I got a sneak preview of this watch a few months ago and am happy to now be able to show it to you. This is the Artya Perpetual Calendar watch - it combines an exclusive manufacture movement with a surprisingly clean and technical design from the "art watch" brand. The Perpetual Calendar will be available as 10 limited edition pieces. Each piece will have its own materials and colors so that it is totally unique. The first thing I noticed about the watch was the bezel. According to Artya's Yvan Apra, the bezel was influenced by the art and style of Stargate - which is essentially futur
