Why Are Mechanical Watches Worth So Much More Than Quartz Watches? - Ask Watch Experts Questions About Watches
Mark C. from Hawaii asks:Why is a quartz three hander (with date) worth half what the same watch would be with an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement?I know why we watch geeks think it is worth more. But, try explaining to regular people the watch price difference when the movement price difference is no more than $150 (and that’s generous in most cases). Not that they know what movements cost, but it still a valid question that gets asked by people what are not into watches. Even a 4x cost multiplier of costs to retail cost does not account for the difference in most cases. The answer is &
What I Learned Building A Watch With At Frederique Constant
The following article was written by Andrew E. who accompanied aBlogtoWatch Founder Ariel Adams on a trip to Geneva to build a watch with Frederique Constant. This is his account of the experience and you can read Ariel Adams' full account of "What It's Like To Build A Watch" here. We thank Andrew for recounting his experience and sharing his mutual passions for watches:When I first tried to describe what it was like to win the watch lover?¡¥s trip of a lifetime, I ended up writing a lengthy travelogue that while descriptive, failed to adequately put into words how it felt to win the aB
Sinn Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition Watch
German Sinn timepieces are really hard for us tool watch lovers to resist. Often stalwart in their new products, over the last few years they have been a bit more trendy and playful. While I don't know first hand, I have a feeling that the Bell & Ross success was a major eye-opener for them. It was basically like selling the best tools in a hardware store, but now in a department store. Bell & Ross has since come a long way, but their roots in offeri
Fortis Cargo Movie Limited Edition Spacematic & Spaceleader Watches
Heard of the science fiction movie Cargo? No? Neither did I until recently. It will be released soon and is a Swiss film. I didn't know they make sci-fi movies, but I will go with it. Check out the trailer here. We have seen this plot before. Can't say how good the movie will be based on the trailer so we will wait until it comes out soon. Nevertheless, Swiss Fortis will come out with two very cool watches in celebration of the movie. My favorite being the Fortis Cargo Limited Edition Spaceleader watch. A very cool timepiece with a sophisticated futuristic look and a nice Valjou
Suave Looking Jaquet Droz Ceramic Power Reserve Watch
After the recent design success that Jaquet Droz had with its (silly named) Grande Second Sport Utility Watch, the company began to realize an emerging market for the brand that included a younger constituency. The next step it seems is a more toned down, but equally energetic watch which is the Ceramic Power Reserve. The case is entirely ceramic, which is of course one of the haute materials being used lately. Ceramic cases always have a sheen to them, but can vary in terms of gloss. I'd guess that this Jaquet Droz is somewhere in the middle. You'll probably agree judging from the pic
