Watch Case Materials Explained: Titanium
Please welcome Mr. ?lker ?zcan who will collaborate with on a few articles discussing materials and processes used in watch cases and other components. Ozcan is a professional Materials Engineer and owns a small R&D company (www.ndsgn) - and he loves mechanical watches and loves the exotic materials used in those watches. The purpose of this article series is to enlighten watch lovers about many aspects of watch materials so that everyone can make more educated decisions about the watches they are buying. Now on to Mr. Ozcan:In this first article I have chosen
Jean Dunand Shabaka Watch
Hands-on with the Shabaka watch was very interesting. I have been fascinated by the Art Deco-themed watch by Jean Dunand since it came out a few years ago. Jean Dunand is an interesting super-high-end brand that produces exclusively "piece unique" creations. On my wrist is an 18k white gold Shabaka with a baguette diamond-lined bezel.I think the Shabaka originally came out in 2007, but new pieces are slowly being made. The movement is entirely made and designed by Christophe Claret. In fact, all Jean Dunand watches (Tourbillon Orbital, Palace) have movements done by Christophe Claret.
Cabestan Nostromo Watch
For 2010 Cabestan brings us something totally new. A fantastic new design dreamed up by talented watch designer Jean-Fran?ois Ruchonnet. Yes, of course, the watch is similar to Cabestan's previous model, the Winch Tourbillon Vertical watch - but is actually more affordable (relatively speaking of course). Gone is the tourbillon, complex winch mechanism and double sapphire crystal over the movement on the face of the watch. Also, instead of the fusee chain transmission is a new gear-shaft style transmission. Cabestan watches are incredibly well finished and made. Much of this is thanks
TX 400 Series Perpetual Weekly Calendar Ref. T3C301 Watch Review
This is a pretty good watch to use when making case for the quartz movement. While the concept behind the original perpetual calendar display is unique and simple, it would be hell to accomplish in a mechanical movement. Instead, it is much more practical to have in a quartz based movement, which makes it something people can actually afford. This seems to be the MO behind TX watches, that they emphasize the strengths of quartz watches as opposed to creating watches that you wish had an automatic movement. Plus, they like to indicate that the movements are German designed? - a little f
Linde Werdelin Oktopus 1,111 Meter Dive Watch
Another new watch for Linde Werdelin in 2009 is the Oktopus. Building on the Biformeter watch case and theme, the Oktopus is a beefed up version of the models in the already sharp looking Linde Werdelin watch line. This is also the first dedicated diver?¡¥s watch for the quickly growing brand ?a featuring a rotating diver?¡¥s bezel and integrated helium escape valve. There is also the little matter of the 1,111 meters of water resistance, that is over 3,300 feet! Almost a mile underwater ?a at this point you are simply adding a wow factor to the watch. Even though you?¡¥ll never go that deep,
