Oris Rallies Up A New Limited Edition RAID Watch For 2013
When it comes to auto racing, you don't find much of it on TV outside of standard NASCAR and drag racing (at least not here in the States). Many years ago though, I discovered the sport of rally racing, and I was hooked. There's just something fun about watching cars racing against the clock, sliding through (generally) unpaved surfaces. And that's the sport that this Oris model is commemorating - rally racing. But it's not just any rally, it's the RAID Suisse-Paris, which features classic cars taking a 600-mile route starting in Basel, and finishing in Paris. Oris has been the official
Mondaine SBB Vintage Limited Edition Watch
Mondaine is a brand that I quite like from a design and price standpoint, but unfortunately, the last several years have seen very little new from the typically strong brand. A few years ago they started to test with sport models, and had even started to include tritium gas tubes into the hands of a lot of their watches. You can see an aBlogtoWatch review of a Mondaine Sport Chronograph here, and a review of a more subtle Mondaine sport model here. These are both low-priced, but high-value timepieces with a look that is all about the traditional Swiss SBB Railways clock. If you recall
Corum Admiral's Cup Seafender 47 Tourbillon GMT Watch Exclusive Debut
I didn't know what to make of this intriguing Corum watch when they showed it to me recently. Part of their higher, higher-end collection of high complication watches, this piece had a number of elements that are thought provoking. At 47mm wide, this watch comes in a few varieties, seen here in aluminum. There will also be a 18k red gold version. Unlike naked aluminum that is prone to degradation overtime, this one is done in an "electroplasma treatment," that I believe protects it and gives it that matte black finish.Aluminum watches aren't as strong as titanium, but are often lighte
Tutima Glashutte Homage Minute Repeater Watch
The big news is that Tutima just opened up their own movement manufacture they call the Glashutte Factory. To celebrate this they have released the first factory watch. It is the Tutima Glashutte Homage that is not only their first in-house movement, but also a minute repeater. According to Tutima (which is located in Glashutte), it is the only minute repeater watch that has been made and also developed in Glashutte. At first I wasn't of Tutima's claim.? Glashutte Original and A. Lange & Sohne are also located in Glashutte Germany, and should have minute repeaters of their o
Romain Jerome Steampunk Watch
Romain Jerome (RJ) isn't beating around the bush with this one. They call it what it is. This is the new RJ Steampunk - and is a follow-up timepieces to the limited edition Romain Jerome Titanic-DNA Tourbillon Steampunk (hold on, let me take a breath) A la Grande watch from a few years ago. There are some differences in style, but the main change (aside from the dial design) is the lack of "Titanic DNA" part of the name and this time RJ uses a movement without a tourbillon -which will certainly help with affordability. The Steampunk is large at 50mm wide and the bezel is oxidized metal
