Christopher Ward C70 DBR1 COSC Special Edition Watch With SuperQuartz Movement
1959 Aston Martin DBR1There's a lot of overlap between watch folks and Aston Martin fans. I'm an amateur with cars, but even I've seen enough of the Bond franchise to appreciate a vintage Aston Martin. This car is a DBR1/2 that won LeMans in 1959. This is the only time that Aston Martin won that race, so this car is a very big deal indeed, and sold for a staggering 20 million UKP recently. Christopher Ward paid a chunk of change for this piece of the car:Panel from the DBR1Wonder which part of the car that is? Firewall? Anyway, they have enough metal to make a special-edition w
Ernst Benz Chronoscope John Varvatos Limited Edition Watch Review
It is with possible envy that fellow boutique watch makers view Ernst Benz's relationship with fashion designer John Varvatos. A relationship that has evolved into John himself configuring limited edition dual-branded timepieces that are sold exclusively in John Varvatos clothing boutiques. Such a relationship is rare, especially for brands the size of Ernst Benz. Still for what the brand is they have achieved some interesting celebrity partnerships. My favorite one was with large orange Chef Mario Batali (hands-on here).Ernst Benz has admittedly not released a very new timepiece in a
Mido Commander II & Great Wall Watches
Mido is one of Swatch Group's smaller brands that you rarely hear about. If you do, you know that like Tissot or (not available in the US) Certina, Mido offers some decent looking pieces at pretty reasonable prices (for a Swiss mechanical watch). As one of the underdog brands, sources say that the Swatch Group just isn't quite sure what to do with them. Sounds like Mido just needs the right type of person in charge. If you look at the pieces they've offered over the last few years, there are some real keepers. One of the most iconic collections from Mido has always been the dressy Comm
Formex A780 Watches For 2010
For 2010 Formex offers two versions of its new A780 watch collection. All are 45mm wide in interesting cases and come in a three-hand automatic version, as well as a quartz chronograph model. I have been a fan of Formex watches for a while - enjoying their "pure" feeling race inspired watches that have some fun tech. Specifically, Formex watches have patented shock absorbing systems that places the case on springs (so to say), this is meant to protect the movement during periods when the watch is experiencing harsh vibrations - such as during a track race, or anything else where shock
MB&F Horological Machine Watches
Back in January, while in Geneva, I got to happily molest the entire collection of MB&F watches. Those lovely Horological Machines were willing participants, and I fondled them with care and admiration. I think the biggest question I got to answer for myself was "are these watches wearable?" Well, in short, the answer is yes - mostly. I should begin with explaining what the point of MB&F watches are as I understand it.MB&F expresses that their mission is neither to make traditional practical watches or men's jewelry. Looking at their designs and listening to MB&F found
