Breitling Chronomat Airborne Watch
Breitling is well known for producing some of the most coveted and most used professional pilot watches. Go to any airshow and you are sure to see pilot enthusiasts and ex- and current pilots themselves wearing the brand's watches. For their 100th anniversary in 1984, Breitling introduced what is now the flagship model of the Breitling collection: the Chronomat. The model has quickly grown into the brand's most popular and mainstream model. The Chronomat is a sturdy and distinctive professional chronograph with a distinguishing tri-compax dial, with large lumed baton hands and markers,
Ulysse Nardin Freak Cruiser Watch
I will freely admit that for my money, the Ulysse Nardin Freak is on a short list of circa $100,000 watches I'd buy. I did not feel this way at first. When the original Freak came out over a decade ago it was named as such for a good reason. Not only was the design totally unconventional, but the concept of a mechanical movement that used silicon (silicium) instead of metal parts was practically heretical. That was then, and today silicon is about as controversial as Swiss cheese to many brands who freely utilize the material in their mechanical watches. For 2013 Ulysse Nardin releases
Baselworld 2013 - Through the Eyes of a First-Timer
This past April/May I had the opportunity to attend Baselworld as part of my role as a Contributing Editor for aBlogtoWatch. I have been writing about watches for a little over six years, and while that may not seem all that long to some of the field's more seasoned writers, it took that long to attend my first Baselworld. Like many, I grew up attending air and auto shows with my Dad and brothers, so when I first learned of Baselworld, I added it to a list of very far off goals as until recently writing about watches was a mere hobby. I had seen photos and read the reports that follow
Grand Seiko Watch Roadshow 2012 At Arizona Fine Time
To be honest with you, I don't really like shopping for watches. I've visited some high-end stores, but have never had a good experience. Haughty and ignorant clerks make for a bad time. It's somewhat understandable in that most customers are not watch geeks, but I'm still averse. So keep that in mind when I tell you that I had a blast visiting the watch showroom at Arizona Fine Time for their Grand Seiko roadshow. This is an unusual place indeed.(Ariel visited last time, and I recommend reading his writeup here as I'll try to not duplicate what he said.)To my mind, the most interest
Sinn Model 902 Limited Edition Watch
I think Audi is the brand to mostly thank for this new Sinn timepiece. Back in 2004 (ish) they worked with Sinn to create a couple of limited edition watches branded "Audi Design." Those watches (at least some of them) you can see below, and seem to be where this squareish, cushion case style came from. Now at the end of 2010, Sinn revisits this case aesthetic with the Model 902. A very interesting retro-futuristic watch with the heart of an aviator, and a designer body.At first I was a bit odded out by the case and dial style. It didn't remind me of the ruthless instrumental looks of
