What Is A Good Starter Mechanical Watch? - Ask Watch Experts Questions About Watches
Zachary V. from Georgia, USA asks: Hello, I visit your site daily and I have had a burning question to ask since I discovered your blog. I am starting to collect watches and being a sophomore in high school, as you can imagine, limits my budget greatly. I was wondering if you could recommend a “training wheels” watch, something not terribly expensive, but something quality and worth my time. I know you deal mostly with extravagant timepieces, but I was hoping you could help. I appreciate your time and hope you have some advice. Thanks for your time. Thanks for being a loyal reade
Glashutte Original Grande Cosmopolite Watch
What exactly is a Cosmopolite? A "Grande" one at that? You may find out... In 2012 at Baselworld, I was excited about my forthcoming meeting with Glashutte Original. The (probably) under-appreciated Swatch Group-owned brand makes some fantastic watches. While they have their place in the Swatch Group and can't do everything they like, they still abide by Germanic principles to produce useful, high-end watches focused more on function and tradition versus mere luxury lifestyle. So I waited eagerly for my meeting, I even showed up with my own Glashutte Original watch that I actually own!
Uniq GAF Watch Review
The watch market has been thoroughly saturated with models that have been designed for (or worn by) some sort of military outfit. JLC makes the Navy Seals diver, Sinn has the EZM 2 which carries the insignia of the counter-terrorism force known as GSG 9, Luminox has been selling models for years citing a connection to the Navy SEALS, and Bremont continues to make specialized models which are exclusively sold to military outfits (when was the last time you saw an instragram photo of a red-barreled MBI?). Many vintage watches that were made for military use are vastly more desirable than
Montblanc Timewriter II Chronographe Bi-Frequence 1000 Watch
Precision chronographs seem to be on the mind of many watch makers this year. Tag Heuer certainly has their share of innovations and everyone seems to want to push forth into a territory people once thought of as "well if you need that kinda precision then get a digital watch." But I digress! Montblanc this year came out with a concept watch that competes with the Tag Heuer Mikrotimer 1/1000th of a second chronograph called the Timewriter II Chronograph Bi-Frequence 1000.The Timewriter II Chronograph Bi-Frequence ('Bi-Frequency' - I don't know about you but I am certainly bi-frequency
Breguet Classique 5717 Hora Mundi Watch
One of the most useful mechanical complications I saw at Baselworld 2011 was the time switching mechanism on the new Breguet Classique 5717 Hora Mundi watch. Aside from having a very clever feature for travelers, the Hora Mundi mixes contemporary looks with Breguet classicism. That sounds like a bit of a irony, but they seemed to pull it off.The watch is large for Breguet Classique pieces at 44mm wide and over 13mm thick. The Classique style case looks nice in the size, but I think the design may have benefited from curved lugs in these dimensions. Of course the coined edge is always
