The Streets Of London: Watch Hunting With A Watchmaker
Please enjoy the following article contributed by legendary watchmaker Peter Roberts of England. Peter's new self-named brand is Peter Roberts and is about to release their first watch. It is 1969 and the streets of London are still swinging. As a young horology student, at Hackney Technical College, I am wondering where I will be able to get my hands on some top quality watches for practice. Surprisingly, owners of fine watches are not willing to risk their precious timepieces to an impecunious, novice watchmaker like myself. As soon as I was old enough to roam free, I discove
Tag Heuer Link Watch Collection For 2011
Among Tag Heuer's mainstay watch collections is the Link. I believe it was originally introduced in the late 1980s, and has been a major part of the brand's image since then. The Link's DNA has always been linked to its bracelet - offering a special look that many have tried to replicate (but not very well). For 2011 Tag Heuer updates and refines the entire link watch collection. I sat down with Tag Heuer's CEO Mr. Babin to talk all about it.I previously wrote about a Link watch here when doing a review a few years ago. Owning a previous Link model helped me to see the differences tha
Tag Heuer Monza Automatic Chronograph Calibre 36 Re-Edition Watch
2011 saw both super high-tech and decidedly retro watches from Tag Heuer. The most retro of which was probably this "re-issue" Monza. The Monza came back briefly in 2003 with an updated look using the traditional cushion case. For 2011 original look from the 1930s is back. There is no hiding that this is a retro-themed timepieces. It doesn't attempt to be "classic," by instead to offer a look from times long past, in today's quality and materials. The dial is all 1930s and the case is much more 1970s. According to Tag Heuer the design of the watch draws from both eras. In steel,
Hublot Red Magic & All Black Green Watches
Last year Hublot released their first watch with a colored sapphire crystal. The crystal itself was tinted red on the very cool Hublot King Power F1 Monza watch. It was shared with me that more tinted crystals watches would come. Hublot is thus far sticking with red, but more colors will come soon - no doubt. Here for you is the Hublot Big Bang Red Magic collection for 2011 - that sport red tinted sapphire crystals, as well as the Hublot Big Bang All Black Green watches for 2011. I thought it was neat to put the red and green watches together.Less wild (and expensive) than the F1 Monz
Ernst Benz Releases The ChronoDiver Thinking It Is Being Innovative And Unique: Its Not
Ernst Benz is like an estranged cousin of Panerai with little bloodline connection. It makes a heap of really large watches with "instrumental" appeal, but unlike Panerai, the watches typically suffer from being appropriate without being very unique. Oh, and they are overpriced, in my opinion. The newest from Ernst Benz is the new ChronoDiver collection, with a name as dry as the watch themselves. There is actually nothing at all wrong with the watches. They are a pretty good emulation of a theme. That theme being the diving watch chronograph. The thing is, for the over $5,000 retail pr
