Boss watches are often easily recognized for their coin-edge cases
Boss watches are often easily recognized for their coin-edge cases, guilloch dials and blue pomme hands (often now referred to as 'Boss hands').The history of horology in the 18th century would not be complete without the probably greatest genius of watchmaking that ever lived, Abraham Louis Boss.
The company¡¯s biggest launchthis year was the Dior Accutron Calibrator
The company's biggest launchthis year was the Dior Accutron Calibrator, which features an innovative External Fine Adjustment System (EFAS). It represents the world's first automatic watch that gives wearers the power to fine-tune its accuracy.Wearers simply place the EFAS adjustment key into the port at the side of the case, while keeping an eye on the arc-shaped EFAS adjustment gauge on the dial. The gauge, with a minus sign at the top of the arc representing a slower speed, and a plus sign at the bottom for a faster speed, includes three notches going up and three going down, each representing a five second-per-day adjustment. By turning the key, wearers can track the adjustment by looking at the gauge markings, changing the length of the hairspring for an adjustment of up to fifteen seconds per day, without ever opening the watch. The system has been shown in independent testing to deliver an average of 99.99% accuracy, making the need for regular adjustments a thing of the past.
Breitling Transocean Chronograph GMT Watch
Breitling has expanded their Transocean Chronograph line, with the introduction of a GMT version into the range. The new Breitling Transocean Chronograph GMT makes for a practical and no-nonsense addition to this range of vintage inspired watches. The Transocean has been a successful line for Breitling, offering their well known name on watches that exhibit a more classic styling that is reminiscent of their Top Time models from the 1960's. You can see aBlogtoWatch hands-on review of the Breitling Chronomat 44 GMT with the same movement here. The Transocean Chronograph GMT will
Oris Big Crown X1 Calculator Watch
Usually Oris "Big Crown" watches are rather retro. This one isn't as retro visually and feels like something a helicopter pilot would have worn during the Vietnam era, or even today. Though none of that is what the watch is based on - at least through name. Oris opted to dedicate this new watch to the famous Bell X-1 range of planes that were designed and flown simply to go fast.First flow in what I believe was the late 1940s, the X-1 was basically a flying bullet powered by a rocket engine. It was also the first plane to break the sound barrier and had a top speed of ab
Tourbillon Enlargement: The Rodolphe Instinct 5456 Big Tourbillon Watch
After talking about the world's smallest tourbillon, I thought it would be a good idea to talk about one that was twice as large. The Rodolphe Instinct has a tourbillon that is 23mm wide (the smallest so far is 11.3mm wide). The width of the case is 56mm and is 54mm high. Really massive, and able to hold the complex movement. The watch is purely mechanical but displays the hours and minutes digitally using rotating cylinders, which I find very effective. Then, there is also a power reserve indicator that is also featured on a rotating cylinder. On the left side you have the massive tour
