Why Are In-House Made Movements Often Ironically More Expensive Than Sourced Watch Movements? - Ask Watch Experts Questions About Watches
Jason L. from New York City asks: In the recent years it seems watch brands have been milking the “in-house movement” movement, but how much does it actually cost to develop an in-house movement? How much more does it cost to manufacture that in-house-developed movement in-house?Since the day of CAD tools and simulations developing a watch movement can be 99% digital with a handful of prototypes (at the final stages of development). It is not like the old days where you needed to have a master watch maker with 50 years of experience to hand draw and fabricate parts for a movemen
LUM-TEC 300M-1 Dive Watch Review
Lume on the Lum-Tec 300mIt seems appropriate to start a review of a Lum-Tec with a picture of their namesake. Eight layers of luminous pigment, in blue and green; makes for a spectacular display at night, or even walking inside to a dark room. Greubel Forsey Art Piece 1 Watch With Willard Wigan
Very soon ultra high-end watch maker Greubel Forsey will begin to fully release a new limited edition of watches made in participation with micro-sculptor artist Willard Wigan. The watches will be known as "Greubel Forsey Art Pieces," and seem to be numerically numbered. The relationship might seem a bit strange at first but begins to make more sense as you think more about it. Wigan is known for making tiny art under a microscope. He is most well-known for creating scenes and figurines on the heads of nails and in pin holes. His creations take a lot of time and he is among the only pe
Bremont B-1 Marine Clock
Check out the first working version of Bremont's highly anticipated Marine Clock (model B-1). While this still an unfinished prototype, we can see just how close to the concept Bremont was actually able to make the clock look in reality. There are still some things to complete. For example this version doesn't yet have working knobs to control the clock or adjust the times. You'll also see a lack of detachable winch style winding stem that is still in development. But the clock is more or less done, and it is really a thing of beauty.I wrote about the Bremont Marine Clock previ
