NOMOS Tangomat GMT Watch Review
NOMOS Tangomat GMTIn this post, I want to talk about the Tangomat model from NOMOS, which is a larger and automatic version of their classic Tangente model with the in-house |? (Xi) movement---the manufacture's most complex movement to-date which powers the Tangomat GMT (reviewed here), the Tangomat GMT Plus, as well as the Z¡§1rich Weltzeit (reviewed recently by Adi Soon).A frequent rule in serious watch collecting is to mostly acquire pieces from brands that only use in-house movements.? The implication is that if your watch is not fitted with an in-house caliber it is inferior. Howeve
Hands-On With Kobe Bryant's New Hublot Watch
When I checked a few days ago I learned that Kobe Bryant has over 15 million fans on his Facebook page. That is a ton of people that?Hublot just earned access to in their recent acquisition of Mr. Bryant as their newest mega-popular athlete brand ambassador. I covered that story more here on Forbes. Here on aBlogtoWatch I'd like to cover the limited edition watch (at least the first one) Hublot has produced for Kobe, unsurprisingly named the "King Power Black Mamba." I should remind you that as of 2013, Hublot is also the official timekeeper of the LA Lakers. Here in Los Angeles I was
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ceragold Watches
For 2012 Omega released a new 18k red gold version of the Seamaster Planet Ocean three-hand and chronograph models with a new type of "Ceragold" bezel. Ceragold is more or less the gold version of Liquidmetal (that I discussed in more detail here). It is a special process that Omega uses to inset gold in the engraved ceramic bezel. In a sense, this is Omega's answer to Rolex's Cerachrom. So why isn't it just "gold Liquidmetal"? Because it isn't. The Liquidmetal process is very similar to Ceragold, but uses a different type of metal. Ceragold actually uses gold. In a nutshell, the ceram
U-Boat U-1942 Limited Edition Watch: Giant Retro Italian Diver
Apparently based on a never actually made design from 1942, the limited edition U-Boat U-1942 watch is an Italian blast from the past. The story goes that the Italian Navy commissioned a special watch to be made, but it never made production. This U-1942 watch is based directly on that design - and it is really sharp looking. The oddest part of the watch is of course the crown. It extends out.. maybe too far.? It is kind of silly and phallic to be honest. I mean it works, and looks cool, but you know.... Lets just say that it looks like a periscope...yea that's it. The crown is
New York Times On: Watch Advertising, Obsessive Watch Geeks
It is charming when you have someone who doesn't know a lot about watches do an article on the watch industry. That isn't to say that the journalist erred in their reporting, but rather that there is a degree of naivete to the tone regarding the topic of discussion, which is watch advertising. A lot of people correctly point out that there is a lot of consistency among watch advertising. You see the hands in the same orientation most of the time, and the date often has an "8" in it, or is at 31. The orientation of the hands is usually at about 10:10. There is nothing at all significant
