Fortis Marinemaster Vintage Limited Edition Watch
In 2012 Fortis released this lovely "Vintage" edition of the Marinemaster (that we first wrote about here). It troubles me a bit when brands use the term "vintage" as applied to a new watch. Is it just me or does that cause unnecessary confusion? What for example do you call the actual original Fortis Marinemaster that this timepiece is based on, the "actual Marinemaster Vintage?" I'm not entirely sure. Despite my meticulous focus on the meaning of words, I was glad to finally get a hands-on look at these watches. Limited to just 500 pieces in each of the two colors, in a few years the
Hublot Cathedral Minute Repeater Tourbillon And Column Wheel Chronograph Watch
The horological highlight from Hublot this year was the long-named "Cathedral" Minute Repeater Tourbillon and Column Wheel Chronograph watch. In a King Power style case, this watch boasts a case formed out of carbon fiber and a very complex movement that has (Yup, you guessed it!) the time, a tourbillon, a minute repeater, and a chronograph.Presenting it was Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver on the first day of Baselworld 2011. In front of a group of us he activated the watch, put a microphone to it, and allowed us to hear the loud minute repeater. As I have stated before, when I mentioned
Virtually Test Watches On Your Wrist From Home With Tissot Reality
Another major step in making watch stores less relevant. I recently discussed the demise of third party watch retailers here, and a lot of people said that they still like going into stores to try watches on. So while buying timepieces online makes sense from a value and selection standpoint, it is hard to give up actually trying-on, and holding the watch. Well, this new system from Tissot doesn't exactly replace that experience 100%, but makes an awfully convincing case for skipping the store. It is called Tissot Reality, and is a method of using what is known as "augmented reality."
Jaquet Droz Bird Repeater Automaton Watch
Jaquet Droz is about to officially announce their new automata-based minute repeater watch called The Bird Repeater. Yup, that's right. Last March during Basel I got to view a computer rendering animation of the watch in action. While the minute repeater is activated a few things happen on the dial. Among those include a "moving" waterfall as well as a mother bird feeding a chick that hatches from an egg. Automaton birds are deeply part of Jaquet Droz's original history. While the concept is "original," the detailing and execution is really impressive. This picture was taken of a finis
